Find your pet with NEW QR code Smartphone technology
It is a fact that 2,500 dogs and more than 3,000 cats go missing every single week in the UK. Many never get reunited with their owners because they simply don't wear an ID tag. Even if they do the contact information is very often out-of-date.
Tag Smart Pets offers a system where a tag displaying a unique QR (quick response) code worn by the pet can be scanned by anyone with a Smartphone. The person scanning will be redirected to the pet's personalised web profile where they can view information which has been added by the owner.
A pet's profile can still be accessed even without a Smartphone by entering a Tag ID (which also appears on the tag) into a search box on the website via a traditional web browser/Internet connection.
This method of identification is instantaneous, efficient and easy to use, giving pets the extra protection they need. The pet's owner has the opportunity to update their pets' profile information online 24/7 for the lifetime of their pet as often as they want and at no extra cost.
Martin Weatheritt, founder of Tag Smart Pets says “Too many pets go missing, never to be returned home. Our website, using QR code technology increases the likelihood of a pet being reunited with its rightful owner exponentially in the easiest, speediest way possible. Pets are precious and our product give them the the extra protection they need.” Our pricing at £14.99 is a low-cost investment that everybody can afford. Unlike some other services we don't charge any recurring membership or registration fees.”
The product isn't intended to replace micro-chipping. Instead it acts as an instant visual identification aid increasing the chance of animals being successfully reunited with their owners quickly. One big advantage is that there is no need to physically take a pet to a vet or animal shelter to be scanned.
There are almost 17M cats and dogs in the UK (Source: MINTEL), so market share potential for the product is significant. The company has business goals to capture between between 0.75-1% of the pet tag market. Tags will be sold online as well as through other distribution channels and 30K units are forecast to be shipped in the first year of operation.
In terms of Smartphone market penetration it is estimated that 50% of mobile customers could own a Smartphone by the end of 2012,. This will increase to 75% by 2015 which will help to underpin the product's expansion.
Tag Smart Pets will be showcasing their new product at PATS Show 2012 (www.patshow.co.uk) at Sandown in Surrey on the 20/21st March in the Discovery Point area. This is the UK's number one trade pet event.
