CJ Wildlife launches new Hedgehog House XXL to provide a home for Britain’s hedgehogs
Wildlife habitat specialists, CJ Wildlife, has launched a new deluxe hedgehog house designed to provide Britain’s much-loved mammals with a spacious and safe home.
With hedgehog numbers estimated to have declined by between 30%-75% across different areas of the country since 2000, the premium habitat has been carefully designed following extensive research to meet the specific care requirements of these prickly garden guests.
Measuring at W 39cm x L 58.4 cm xH 49.9cm the hedgehog house features a generous internal area to provide ample space for nesting and hibernation, as well as a large entrance opening measuring at 13cm x 13cm, to allow pregnant and larger-sized hedgehogs to come and go comfortably.
Its long tunnel provides much-needed protection from predators, such as foxes and cats, and it features built-in ventilation to ensure the space stays fresh and free from damp throughout the year.
Constructed from FSC certified wood, it comes in a natural green finish to camouflage with gardens, providing an additional layer of protection from predators and is guaranteed for 5 years.
With a pitched roof that overhangs the structure, hedgehogs will also benefit from extra protection during heavy rainfall, keeping them dry during even the most extreme weather conditions.
The roof is also removable allowing for easy access for cleaning when unoccupied and restocking with hay, dry leaves, and food, ready for its new or returning occupants.
“We are proud to introduce our new deluxe hedgehog house, which has been developed following extensive research to ensure we create the perfect habitat for our prickly friends,” comments Claire Smith, Chief Officer Partnerships, Products and Business Development at CJ Wildlife and Vivara.
“Britain’s hedgehogs need our help and adding this premium hedgehog house to your garden will provide a safe environment for them to shelter, hibernate and raise their young year on year.
“Where possible, place the house in a protected area under some permanent sheltered greenery. April and October are the best months to put out a hedgehog house, either side of their hibernation season. Placing it in or next to sheltered greenery like a hedge or bush will add extra protection from potential predators!” As well as the new Deluxe Hedgehog House XXL, CJ Wildlife also offers a range of specialist food for hedgehogs, as well as bedding and bowls.
